What is your favorite book that was made into a movie?

I agree with you on both books & movies, Joan!

As discussed in another thread, I also loved both the book & movie of "Angela's Ashes".

I also love Catherine Cookson & have enjoyed all the mini series that have been made of her books.

I was very surprised how much I loved Baz Luhrmann's version of Romeo & Juliet. It was fantastic that he kept Shakespeare's original words but made it relevant to a modern setting.

I must agree with you about To kill a Mockingbird, but never read Gone with the wind to compare. Smile

Oh yes, About a Boy was very good too Smile

I must admit I still think the Great Gatsby was the best conversion from book to screen that I have yet seen.

Mostly I find reading a book and then seeing a movie adaptation disappointing as a movie by its very nature cannot capture all that is contained in a book.

The one surprise that I found was Harry Potter, where you pretty much have to read the books in order to understand the movie - this is especially true for the first movie.
