Fostering Animals
#1
Great little thing I was introduced to just recently through the vet here at work.

On Monday we are taking on two kittens through a local animal fostering home. We keep them as our own, feed them, etc, but the vet bills are covered by the agency, and if for whatever reason we cannot keep them at some point in the future, they go back to the home.

We have been thoroughly vetted by the home and provided with info sheets on every aspect of caring for the cats, right down to dietary requirements, etc.

I am quite excited about this - it is great to have cats again, and, if our circumstances ever change, we know that they will always have a good home to go back to.

That sounds like such a good idea, one of the worst parts about having to give a pet up is not knowing whether they are going to a good home.

On a similar subject, I did see this link today about police dog puppies http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berks...164438.stm. It would be lovely to do but whether I could hand a puppy back after 10 months is debatable.

Britbok - we actually have a similar programme here - but it is for dogs that have failed on the police training programme (if they are gun shy, etc). You do not get as many of them but they make excellent pets as they have been so thoroughly trained by the Gardai.
