House Buying - You Have To Be Crazy!
#11
Thanx for all the support....

Well, we now have all the keys in our possession.... at least I hope so!

The carpet man will be cleaning the carpets tomorrow evening and he will be removing all the stains out of the carpets....

One less thing that I have to do.

Coming to think about it, maybe I should start my own cleaning business... sheesh these guys make a killing! 70 pounds for two bedrooms and a bathroom....

As far as the wondow pane goes, my solisotor wrote to the Vendor's solisitors, but I have to be honest, I am NOT holding my breath!

Thanx again for all your support! :chorus:

You can go down to the County Court pay about 120pounds, sue for damages resulting in a county court judgement against them. You need to send them a letter giving them 7 working days to rectify the matter, they have to hand over the keys immediately, it would not do any harm laying a complaint at the local police station regarding the keys, so you are covered if anything goes wrong. Damages include the damage to the property and also mental angquish, Go for it dont let them get away with it, absolute scum if you ask me, so many of them around these days.

Sorry people, but I have to let off some steam otherwise I might just explode!

We put in an offer on a house at the end of October last year.... since there was no chain, we were supposed to have it all exchanged and completed by mid December.....

Well, mid December came, and nobody could tell us if we would be exchanging and completing as there were some unanswered queries.

Anycase, we exchanged on the 16th December, and all of the sudden the Seller was all sulks because we decided to only complete in January.... our reasoning was that nobody was able to tell us if we would be able to exchange and complete by the 15th December, thus leaving us little or no time to arrange a moving lorry and the solicitors were closing on the 17th December. Basically, we didn't know what would happen, and everybody was closing for the Christmas week.... So shoot me!

We decided to go on holiday and only stress about the move upon our return, which was easier said than done... knowing that there is some big unfinished business carried forward for 2005!

Had the holiday, went back to work yesterday and completed today. Hubby went to get the keys from the Seller, and they trashed the place inside. He didn't replace the glass panes in the back door as per our contract, and WORST of all, he left some of his possessions in our garage... when asked out the stuff, a fruit gambling machine and a tyre, he said "oh my mate will come and get it" When asked how his mate will get access, he quite happily replied that his mate had a key.

EXCUSE me... but it is now my house, so nobody other than me should have the key.....

Am I going insane here??? Is this normal practice?

I am really trying not to stress... but being pregnant and knowing that I have to go and cleam up after some pig family is very stressfull, and not to mention about strangers having keys to my house!!!

I cannot believe that we were so trusting with this guy. He is Turkish, and he came accross very genuine, but OBVIOUSLY not!

Ok.. now I'll get off my Confusedoapbox:

Thanx for listening. :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Sad
Believe me, it happens in SA too.......I had a buyer move in, payed occupational rent, did all sorts of things to the house and then left owing big bucks in rent, legal fees, repairs etc etc.
In this case he is in breach of contract. Re the keys.....whenever I move I change the outside locks as a matter of course.....

Hi spam, thought the hairy backs and rock spiders could not speak English ( or spell it for that matter...)

Should it not be "paid"

Just kidding, the Americans have developed a whole new system of spelling... soos die ou boere, spel soos jy praat..............

As much as I am trying to get excited... I just can't! :bigcry: :bigcry:

We have the carpet cleaners at the house now, and they phoned hubby to tell him that they are not able to get any hot water.

Luckily he was still out there so he went past the house...remembering that the new house is about 45 miles away from where we currently live.

No heating and no hot water. What next?

I have honestly NEVER in my entire life had such a horrible stressful experience!

Spam... I know what you are saying that it happens in SA too, but there you are better protected... I used to work for Conveyancers in SA and things are a lot less complicated than here. In SA you get paid occupational rent, here there is no such option, and once the transaction is completed, you get your keys, and then only are you able to see how the previous people messed things up.

We now have all the keys to the house, so that problem has been resolved, and the guy had his gambling machines removed from the garage.... but it is just one thing on top of another!

I am really not being negative, but this past Christmas period has been a nightmare and to have to cope with this rubbish just aint any fun!

You know when bad luck just seems to keep on flowing towards you like a raging river... that is basically how I feel! :wall: :wall:
