The disastrous 7.1 earthquake on October 17 resulted in close to $3 billion in damage for San Francisco alone. The damage in the entire earthquake zone is estimated to be closer to $6 billion. The earthquake struck just before the third game of the World Series at Candlestick Park between the two Bay Area baseball teams, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's.

Liberace owned 39 pianos.

He also owned antique pianoes, including one that belonged to Frédéric Chopin.
