The Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services has called on Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) to submit information about their businesses.

“This is part of government’s priority to nurture and support SMMEs as the bedrock of economic development,” the department said in a statement.

The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Siyabonga Cwele, released a gazette requesting for information on SMMEs for the ICT sector.

“The information required includes, the nature of business, years of operation, partnerships (local and/or global), number of employees, annual turnover and the specific challenges they face,” the department said.

The information that will be gathered would assist in re-engineering ICT SMMEs development so as to enable them to participate across the entire ICT value chain.

“It would also create specific support mechanisms in the way that is impactful for their long-term sustainability.”

To ensure alignment, the department will be working with the newly established Department of Small Business Development to ensure a common approach to SMMEs development as envisaged by the government.

The closing date for the submission was 29 August. The gazette number is 37878 and would be available on the department’s website: doc.gov.za – SAnews.gov.za
