I see my calculation was wrong anyway ... I was confusing distance and speed ... :duh:

Sorry but it I still can't work it out though ... I think we need to know at what point Will slowed down to 2 mph, and then it will be answerable Smile
OK ..

3 miles per hour = 20 minutes for 1 mile

in 1Hr they covered 3 miles .. yes

returning 3 miles at 2miles per hour .. 2 miles per hour = 30 minutes per mile

3 miles = 1Hr 30 in total 2Hr 30 minutes for 6 miles

150 minutes in total divide by 6 = 2.5

well .. that is what I thought ...
1 hour at 3 m.p.h. + 1 hour at 2 m.p.h. going out, 2 hours returning at 2 m.p.h. = 9 miles traveled in 4 hours...
so that is 3 miles plus 2 miles = 5 miles

3miles in 1 Hr = 20 minutes per mile

2 miles in 1Hr = 30 minutes per mile

5 miles at 2 miles per hour = 2hr 30

4hr 30 = 270 divide by 10

2.7 is what Dudette got

or have I got the wrong clutch of the leek

Which gives me 2.333

:duh:

Will travelled 5 miles out... first hour at 3 m.p.h. and the last at 2 m.p.h but returned the whole distance at 2 m.p.h. !!!!

***Thinks aloud***

So 5 miles in 2 hours going out + 5 miles going back at 2 m.p.h. .... the latter taking 2.5 hours...

So he covered 10 miles in 4½ hours giving us an answer of..... 2.2222....

Rolleyes
4hrs = 240 minutes

30 minutes added = 270 miniutes

27 minutes per mile what does that equate to per hour

But how do you know that he walked the full hour at 2 mph?

I don't... :haha:

A question about some motel furniture is coiled in the grid below. To spell it out, start with one letter and move to an adjacent letter in any direction. (Hint: Start with an “H.” One null.)

Code:
A R E O D S
S O V E A G
O C T S U A
F O T I N Y
A T A M A N
X E K W O H
the question will strart with "how"

if one can move digonally also then there is a sentence which reads:

how may a guest cover a sofa...

Are you sure you put the code down correctly? Because to my reckoning, if I juggle some letters around I get

"How many nugs does it take to cover a sofa"

Not common language, I know, but I'm sure it will make sense to someone!
