Currently using pay as you go mobile on vodafone uk and I have bought an American T-mobile sim (also p-a-y-go) to use in America when we go on holiday in a week. Does the phone need to be unlocked or would that only apply for a UK T-mobile SIM?
It depends on whether your phone was GSM free when you purchased it for using the vodafone sim card.

Make sure it's a tri-band phone when you visit the states - otherwise it won't matter whether it's unlocked or not Wink

Try putting another Sim card in and see if it works, if not then it is blocked. There is normally someone in every town who will unblock for a fee. We have a guy here who will do it for £15. It's all legal as he has a barrow in our local shopping centre.
hi goldminer

just put the t-mobile sim in now, the phone will tell you right away if it accepts the new sim or not. luckily t-mobile over here uses the gsm network. if all else fails you can buy a phone here with a sim for $20. ( i did )

where are you going to visit??

cheers
