Okay..I said last year that it was our turn to host the office staff..:engel:

Right, it is this Saturday night,:yikes: we are hosting a casino night, one of the staff has a gaming business which he runs at weekends, and is going to set up his tables here.

Now advice on what to serve as they will be at the tables most of the evening. Nothing too fancy - as still recovering from an operation and need to do easy stuff I think the dessert would be covered as hubby mentioned one of the staff offered to do that.

So please put your thinking caps on and help me out here! I would like to keep in the theme of the evening, but simple food would do..:thumbs: :thumbs:

Are you going to take the food around to the tables? Fresh fruit on toothpicks would be great - thick cucumber rings with cream cheese on top. Corn chips with spinach dip or salsa. Little meatballs with a dipping sauce or sweet and sour chilly sauce. I have a recipe for little bacon cheese muffins for a savoury snacks. Very tasty.

Another option is to get round breads, hollow it out and put a mixture of cream cheese, soured cream, ham & onion in it. Put the lid on, cover with foil and bake for around an hour. Serve with big bread cubes that are dipped into the hot cream cheese mixture - always a winner.

Another treat is dipping strawberries in melted chocolate.

Being a dainty, cultured evening with wine, gaming and a little music no doubt - office staff dressed to the nines as though going to a 'proper' casino - would lend itself to canapes and finger food. 1.5 x each variety (with between 15-20 different canapes/ finger food items) of canape per person would be the same as eating a 2-3 course meal at a restaurant.
Obviously as you're eating slowly, more measured mouthfuls, whilst sipping on your drinks and playing/ gambling the night away, the food tends to be spread over a number of hours and can become 'all-night' in effect, [SIZE="1"]with no-one getting the stuffed-pig look or feel.[/SIZE]
If however this is not the scenario and you'd prefer the spitbraai/ trough of stew/ pallet of beer and tottering females being groped in the loo by their secretaries.. then go ahead. It might make the evening more interesting and you won't have to worry about catering such easy food.

Hi Cheffie..

It went off very well, i had a small babelaas on Sunday morning...:innocent:

I served prawn toasts, stuffed mushrooms, spring rolls and crudites with dips for starters, then i cooked a Coq Au Vin, with green salad and fresh crusty bread, then i served a gorgeous frozen banana and peanut butter cheesecake which i made myself and a chocolate gateau for dessert......

I am most impressed that most of the food was eaten which is a brilliant sign that it was enjoyed by all....plus moi!! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:
