Pretoria – Police arrested two rhino poachers in Pafuri at the Kruger National Park at the weekend.

The suspects, who are all foreign nationals are expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of the illegal possession of a fire-arm and ammunition as well as charges of rhino poaching.

During the arrest, police found a rifle and two rhino horns.

The two suspects were arrested inside the park with a 458 hunting rifle and two rhino horns. Further police investigations led the police to the rhino carcass the following day.

Provincial Police Commissioner in Limpopo applauded police for the good work they have done arresting the suspects.

He reiterated that police will continue to deal with rhino poachers at all times.

According to the Department of Environmental Affairs, the Kruger National Park continues to bear the brunt of rhino poaching with the number of rhinos poached since last week increasing from 180 to 201.

The number of alleged poachers that have been arrested has increased to 83 with five arrests having been made at the Kruger National Park since last week.

Since January, a total 41 alleged poachers have been arrested at the park. – SAnews.gov.za
