Mbombela - Tomorrow is the last day for Mpumalanga matrics to apply for bursaries so they can further their education next year.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government Bursary Scheme is offering the bursaries to matriculants from poor homes.

“The department calls on all Grade 12 learners who need financial assistance to further their studies at any university within our country to apply for bursaries for the 2014 academic year before the closing date," said Jasper Zwane, spokesperson for the provincial education department, which administers the bursary scheme.

Applicants have to complete a bursary application form that is accessible at the provincial government complex at Riverside in Mbombela or any regional education department office.

Applications can also be made online on the department's website: mpumalanga.gov.za/education

Zwane said the bursaries are available for all fields of study. "Aspiring doctors, engineers and more are asked to apply,” said Zwane.

Applicants must provide certified copies of their Grade 12 mid-year results if currently in Grade 12 or their final Grade 12 certificate, as well as proof of residence in Mpumalanga, a letter or provisional letter of acceptance or proof of registration from a higher education institution.

They must also provide a certified copy of their South African Identity Document, proof of income of their parent or guardian, proof of disability from a registered medical doctor or clinic/hospital (if applicable) and/or proof of indigent status.

“Learners are also encouraged to take advantage of other opportunities provided by government to assist them to obtain a university qualification such as the Fundza Lushaka Bursary Fund and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme,” said Zwane. – SAnews.gov.za
