Help! - Icecub - 07-11-2006 It is my turn in a few weeks to cater for the office lot, normally each year we go to a different person's house and have a good time, eating, socialising etc.. Now please give me ideas on what to serve - for canapes, i don't want to serve a starter, as this is a social party not a sit-down dinner. I am thinking of maybe lasagne, with lots of crusty bread and green salad - definitely not bobotie or anything with a risotto (i for one cannot stand both those dishes). Or maybe a huge pot of beef stroganoff or a guiness stew...(or maybe not - one of the guys made three different types of curry last yr) Help, i am not sure what to do...and there is one vegetarian...eish!! ![]() Some ideas please...thanks in advance... :read: Help! - Pronkertjie - 07-11-2006 Something that goes like "soetkoek" is when you turn cream cheese out of the tub and pour sweet chilli sauce over it with crackers. I am on my way out - but will try and give more ideas when I come back. Sterkte :daisy: Help! - Cheffie - 07-11-2006 Icecub Wrote:Some ideas please... 1. Make the vegetarian eat before he/ she comes out to be sociable. Alternatively inform the person that it's a carnivore feast and perhaps to consider bringing a leg of lamb so that they might accept him/ her into the group? 2. Get a caterer. Costly but at least you get to drink more and be social. 3. Get the vegetarian to go hunting on mainland Britain. He/ she can bring back the spoils for you to enjoy. Pick a few mushrooms, nuts and roots and leave it for him/ her to figure out how to cook and enjoy. 4. Get a caterer. They normally have a range of menus available for you to peruse and you can spend spend shop and spend. 5. Send the invites out listing someone else's address/ expensive restaurant/ dodgy kebab shop and stay at home with hubby and get completely plastered. Without the vegetarian of course. Maybe get the caterer to supply you with a private dinner - the mind can go wild here. You can dress up like santa's helper and throw tupperware too.. Alternatively you can: get a caterer to do it. ![]() Let us know how many people? What are their ages? When exactly (seasonality springs to mind)? What is the theme (Black tie etc)? What is the budget? Help! - sooibrand - 07-11-2006 For the vegetarian (not vegan) an asparagus or even mixed veg quiche - use lots of cheese in the crust and quiche bit. for canapes - cheese platter with bisc or even veg crudites with dip Help! - Icecub - 10-11-2006 Thanks for your suggestions, but due to unforseen circumstances, we will be doing this early in the new year. :jive: Help! - Cheffie - 10-11-2006 What menu did you decide on? Types of food etc? Are you getting in a caterer? :innocent: ![]() Help! - Icecub - 10-11-2006 Cheffie Wrote:What menu did you decide on? Please excuse me if it comes across as cranky. I am. :o |
