Your thoughts for my daughter
#31
I understand your circumstances only too well, my daughter was successfully diagnosed while we were on holiday in SA after a doctor here gave a very offbeat diagnosis. We were starting to question our sanity. A few years ago I was misdiagnosed in casualty as suffering severe indigestion when the true reason turned out to be a blocked bile duct and I was operated on just in time, before my liver shut down. Otherwise, we have mostly had good experiences with the NHS and I think my GP is excellent, but occasionally you run up against a brick wall of fear or arrogance.

The severity of pain is difficult to measure, but I fail to understand how the doc found causal link to depression.
In the first instance, a letter with your daughters history, sent overnight registered post, marked private and confidential, to the chief exec, asking for an urgent review should help. Hospitals are very quick to act against negative publicity.

I hope for the very best for your daughter.

Will keep you informed as to what transpires.

Sadly, we are sometimes left with no choice, like John, my wife was recently diagnosed to have indigestion when she actually had a broken sternum. My youngest son had terrible problems when still a baby, but his doctor felt that his screaming was just him being naughty.
We refused to leave unless we got a referral to a specialist who diagnosed severe heartburn and we never looked back (after 6 months of him living through this agony).
I picked up a bad infection after an op last year and Addenbrookes is considered one of the best hospitals in the country. But we have had some good treatment there as well.

I have every confidence that you will get to the bottom of this, but why should your daughter have to suffer like this? Good luck.

I am now concerned for my daughter in that when I mentioned what I wanted to do, she said "why bother dad - they are not interested, I'm just a number to them". Now I have to convince her that it is worth fighting for.

Rob, having experienced the same with my wife, who suffered a similiar experience as described, I had to just carry on regardless. I found that as time went on, she rediscovered some of the fight and I am sure that your daughter will do the same. It is really hard to see them apparently give up like that, but understandable in the circumstances. Good luck Rob

Oom, I just read all this, and I am truly gobsmacked. Your poor daughter - to go through all this pain and to have the medical 'powers' just shrug her off (so to speak) is just incomprehensible. I can only send you all special thoughts, that she may be pain free soon!

Oom Rob, I was wondering if there was any further news about Wendy? Is she feeling any better? She has been in my daily prayers. Smile
