Hi there
I can add a few comments but my main question would be have you ever been to Luton? I would suggest that you consider your location carefully. Luton is not exactly the safest place in comparison to surrounding locations - it is also quite an ugly town centre. I appreciate that perhaps your friends and family may live on the outskirts of Luton but if not - please do consider this choice of location.
I am only saying this as I live 7 miles from Luton and avoid it at all costs. Only last week my partner and I had reason to collect a parcel from the UPS depot in Luton and it took us around 50 minutes to get to it - the traffic is dismal.
We live in Hitchin which is serviced by a good rail service into London. An annual travel card with underground sets me back £3680 p.a. Work in and around Luton is ok, but you may wish to consider Milton Keynes or St.Albans if you do not want to commute to London.
Kids at your age are cheap in one respect (food) but child care is expensive... while your wife is not working that will sort out the child care but you will need to factor that in. I would suggest you aim a bit higher with regards to salary... start high and only accept less if you must. There are some websites that will give you an idea of what the current salary is - http://www.payscale.com
My partner and I are fortunate to owe very little by way of debt (credit card less than £5K) and earn significantly more than £35K. Our 3 bedroom house costs £950p.m. in rent and while our grocery bill is also around £80 per week this does not include things like school dinners, work lunch, outings for the kids or take aways (only my partner and I enjoy a chinese once every 2 weeks)... what I am trying to say is if you want to be in a position to save towards a deposit and enjoy a good quality of life aim a lot higher than the £35K.
Kids get more expensive the older they get and if they are sporty then it is doubly expensive! My money seems to go towards college, rugby (kit and tours), SKY (ok, we do not go out to watch movies so while it is expensive it is still cheaper than heading out to a movie), braai's!
anyway - have a look at Reed for jobs and hope you find what you are looking for... why if you dont mind me asking would you want to leave Ireland? (S or N?)
