Amersham is very nice, we actually bought a house in Chesham but just before we moved in, we told the Developer to keep it because they had literally halved the size of the garden without informing us. So we found the home we're in now which is nice too but we find that shopping is poor - Chesham, Amersham is better. We go to Marlow now rather than High Wycombe but there is a lot of interesting development going on in HW so hopefully it'll improve.
I'll PM you about restaurants closer to home.
Drop me a line before you come visit - perhaps make a day of it by going to Woburn Safari park etc?
Beaconsfield is quite good as well - for the array of quality shops, some places to eat and some really quaint shops etc.
Occasionally we have the French Market come to town, along with the proverbial farmer's market and the county fairs etc.
Marlow is gorgeous, as is Henley. I'm assuming you have done the trip up the river on one of the boats? Try the same thing at Windsor - it takes youpast Eton etc too. Beautiful, tranquil and something to do on a glorious English summer's day.
If your wife is a fan of chocolate - try the shop in Wendover - it's brilliant!
HW has had the planning and whatnot for years, so it should be interesting to see it all come to fruition. Though the student aspect will make life interesting LOL..
The Royal Standard is nearish too - for an ancient pub, it's wonderful to sit and breathe in the history.
