Whatever some may criticise about it , it IS important to "do the tourist thing" for once , and so be able to cross it off your list of "must do's" ;
then , when you visit again , you can focus on other incredible stories and/or "speciality interests" : Sacre Coeur basilica , Place Vendomme , Luxembourg gardens , Opera Garnier , La Madeleine , dept.stores on Boul.Haussmann , islands on the Seine , Fabourg St.-Honore displays , Le Marais , real and fake art on offer , the brasseries , Bois de Boulogne...there is just so much to see and do , from bookstores to night clubs , from cinema to enigmatic anorexic Japanese stunners queueing for hours to get into Louis Vuitton superstore...
me , I just love even the Nord station , with all its hustle-bustle excitement and the TGVs , or the walk down towards main town , where , on Rue Lafayette , Le Floreal is a friendly , hi-quality neighbourhood brasserie , which I wholeheartedly recommend for incredibly-tasty ( free ) jams and marmalades with your excellent coffee'n'croissant petit dejeneur.
( They also serve terrific lunches and have an extensively-accomplished wine list - but then : you can't spend your whole hols in City of Light inside one single brasserie , can U now ?Heh , heh...)
