I read a book by him about 2 years ago called Notes from a Big Country (about Australia) and found it hard work, so was not very motivated to try some of his other best-sellers.
On being awarded our much-deserved citizenship, someone gave me Bill Bryson's Notes from a small country (re the UK). I've only read up to about the first 50 pages and discovered a whole new side to his writing! He is so hilarious, and has caught the national psyche as well as newcomers reactions to it so accurately, he had me in tears of laughter last night!
I can't wait to get to bed again!
