I agree with the good Dr. to a certain extent.
But I also believe all babies while they are still very small, say up until the age of ca. 8 months should be treated like that. Once they start to show signs og independance, like wanting to eat self etc, then another factor jumps in...Praise and encouragement.
These will give the child selfconfidence, and the will to try and do things on their own.
Some boys who are treated in that way until later stages in their lives I find often end up being little mommies boys, wimpish and spoiled. They will cling to moms skirt any chance they get....but on the other hand maybe also the moms are to blame here for not being able to let go...
