Where were the first oranges and lemons brought from to plant in S A?
OK, letÂ’s use some logic here. The Portuguese and the Spanish passed around the Cape of Storms first, but it was the Dutch who arrived to settle there. Their prime task was to supply fresh water, fruit and vegetables for the ship crews passing to and from Asia. As the crews were not getting enough fresh fruit etc, and the most common disease was scabies (me thinks). This was due to the lack of vitamin C, well so it was thought at the time. So therefore I would say it was the Dutch who brought it with, to grow and supply the passing ships.
The Dutch is my final guess (and could also explain their national colour) :crylol:
