The roadrunner reaches only about 12 miles per hour, whereas the ostrich has been known to run as fast as 45 to 50 mph. Imagine a 9-foot-tall, 300 pound bird running alongside your car on the highway! Ostriches also have the largest eyeballs of any bird (about 2 inches actross) and the largest egg (averaging 7 inches long and weighing about 3 pounds).
