telephone calls internet

I have set up the microsoft version, and it appears to work at home on the network.

Does anyone have any experience of talking internationally using the MS package. ( the keep telephone calls down option )

Or is there a better package that someone could recommend.

We want to talk to folks in SA and UK from Germany and reduce the costs on the telephone bill.

Seeing as we have a broadband connection this makes sense.

What experiences from other buzzers? Comments welcome

Hi Pav, I did not explain myself very well.

This is the facility of being able to use your PC sound card and a microphone to chat to someone in another country, but using the internet as a carrier.

The other person needs to be online at the same time, and needs to be running compatible software.

You can then ( using the chat facility under MS messenger for instance ) have a live audio link ( a little choppy and buggy, but is OK ) and talk to your hearts content. This at the cost of your local call to service provider, or if you are lucky and have a flat rate broadband, then the cost is covered in your monthly subs.

Thanks for the adress PAV, will look at the site, I see they will be at Cebit. A show I have always wanted to visit, pity its in Hanover tho, a 4.5 hour drive for me.

Do I buy the software and send it to them or is the software free?

PAV its free, if you go into the Microsoft site and download the microsoft messenger package, then set up yourself a hotmail adress, you have to go through the options and you will see that it allows you to recognise when someone is online. You can then set up a direct audio link, as well as typing etc, like in a chat site, but directly with that person.

I kow ICQ did something similar some time ago. The trick of course is to get the person you want to speak to, online at the time that you want to speak, which is fairly easy, just send a mail with the times.

My hubby and I use Skype...and definitely recommend it. The sound quality is pretty good too....
