Have you had Raclette lately?

I introduced it to another Saffer awhile ago and he is doing lots of research not to buy the best one. It is not available in SA at all.

:am:

It is :rainy: and a very grey Saturday!

I am going to be very lazy today.... but then, so many things in my house are screaming "put me back where I belong" after two crazy busy weeks. Will have to see what I can do about that! :theclub:

Enjoy your day!

  UK Best Dishes 2006
Posted by: Cheffie - 01-09-2006, 11:19 AM - Forum: Food Matters - No Replies

Restaurant Magazine (same guys who do the World's 50 Best Restaurants) have published the finalists for the UK Best Dishes 2006.

Industry Bible Restaurant Magazine announces the finalists for its Best Dishes Awards 2006

This week Restaurant Magazine announces the short-listed finalists for their Best Dishes Awards 2006. Nominees stretch the length and breadth of the country, from the star-studded restaurant of international repute to the closely guarded local secret. ItÂ’s not big bucks or fame that guarantees success in this competition but expertise and flavour, and that may emerge from the humblest of kitchens.

The shortlist includes restaurants stretching the length and breadth of Britain. Last year, London surprised no-one by proving itself to be the culinary capital of the UK. This year however, the London-centricity of BritainÂ’s dining scene is in question with 26 of the 43 finalists coming from other cities or rural reaches. LondonÂ’s restaurants are being rivalled by rural backwaters such as Little Bedwyn in Wiltshire and the Scottish Highlands.

Out of 43 restaurants on the shortlist, only 17 are in the capital, leaving the remaining 26 in the further reaches of the country including Northern Ireland, South Wales and notably the North East.

The awards are broken down into 15 categories, including typically British dishes such as Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips and Roast Beef, and well-loved imports such as Tapas, Sushi, Curry and Dim Sum, in recognition of the UKÂ’s unrivalled culinary melting pot.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on
Monday 23rd October

:mmm:

I need to get out more.. I've only eaten at one of those restaurants :wall:

I'd be interested if any of you around the country have eaten in a few of these establishments.

Being in the top three in the country is quite cool.. and I'm curious as hell what the other 2 puddings are..

I am sooooooo glad it is Friday.... it means the end of a VERY busy 3 weeks for me! :jive:

It is overcast and cool here.

Read something this morning that made me smile: "All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism."

Enjoy your day!

  New South African ID book

This woman requested, when applying for her South African ID, that a dash be

put on the last letter of her name.

She wrote her name "Anmeri" and in Afrikaans wrote: "let op na die strepie

op i" (or "take note of the dash on the i".)

Someone was telling us this week that he was speaking somewhere and he had to visit the bathroom quite urgently...... and forgot to turn his microphone off. The whole auditorium heard the splashes and the noises .... poor guy! Blush

At least he can laugh at himself!
