The story of the contact lense |

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite
cliff.
She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this,
her
first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against
her
eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", she thought. "Here
I am
on a
rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the
top
of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."
She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the
ledge.
But it just wasn't there.
She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed
for
calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.
When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her
clothing
for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that
she
was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see
across
the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the
Lord
run to and fro throughout the whole earth."
She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know
every
stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please
help
me."
Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the
cliff
they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the
cliff.
One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact
lens?"
Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber
saw
it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock,
carrying
it!
The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When
she
told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact
lens,
he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption,
"Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it,
and
it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it
for
You."
I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know
why
You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully
heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will."
God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. :wings:

Easter activities for the little ones |

The Easter weekend is almost upon us, and if your house is anything like mine, youÂ’ll be scrounging for some ideas to keep your children entertained along the Easter theme. Here are some ideas IÂ’ve found which I hope youÂ’ll find helpful.
If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact me at parenting@globalbuzz-sa.com. IÂ’d love to hear from you.
Eggshell Mosaic
A great way to use up the eggshells left over after youÂ’ve eaten your eggs. Children will love breaking up the eggshells.
Materials:
Coloured eggshells, construction paper, paintbrush, crayon, pen or marker, glue. On a piece of paper have child draw a simple design (e.g. flower, balloon, kite, egg). The children will love painting the glue onto the design area. Try and fit the egg shell pieces into one another like a jigsaw onto the glue. Allow to dry then hang and enjoy.
Dyed Easter Eggs
Materials:
hard boiled egg(s)
Food colour
small bowls, cups or empty margarine containers
White vinegar
Food colouring
Directions:
Fill containers about 1/2 to 2/3 full of water. If you fill the containers too full they will overflow. Using cups is the most frugal method.
Add 1 tsp of vinegar for approximately one cup of water.
Add food colour until you're happy with the shade you want. Quite a lot is required to get the right strength.
Put hard boiled eggs in the cups (Use a Tbsp to put them in and out)
Let dry. Wipe with vegetable oil (with paper towel or a rag) to make your egg glossier.
NOTE: Always cover your work surface with newspaper so the dye doesn't get on your kitchen table. Wipe off any spills or splashes with a rag immediately. .
Marbleized Easter Eggs
Materials:
hard boiled egg(s)
food colouring
1 Tbsp vegetable oil (for each colour)
Directions:
Add 1 Tbsp vegetable oil to each colour you want to marbleize
Dye eggs
When you remove the eggs, the oil will have caused a cool marbleized effect
Rubber Band Easter Eggs
Materials:
hard boiled egg(s)
wide rubber bands
Easter Egg dye: store bought dye or home made
Directions:
Simply dye your eggs a light colour (ex: yellow).
Then wrap rubber bands around the egg.
Now dip in a darker colour.
Let dry.
Remove rubber bands to see your tie dyed Easter egg!
Easter Hands Wreath
Materials: glue, scissors, and three colours of pastel paint or construction paper.
Trace the child's hand onto paper and cut out the prints. Or you could make paint handprints on the paper and cut those out.
Make nine handprints (3 of each colour).
Cut out the prints and glue to form a wreath.
You can decorate the wreath further with pictures.
These could be stickers, hand drawn artwork by the children,
pictures from colouring books, magazines or fliers
Toilet Paper Roll Rabbits/Chicks
Material:
Toilet paper rolls/ kitchen paper roll cut down to size, scissors, construction paper, felt tip pens, glue, glue-on eyes, cotton wool, or whatever you think appropriate.
Cut hair, ears, paws beak, etc. out of felt, foam, or construction paper.
Glue these onto the body.
Next colour a face onto your chick or bunny.
Name them a name and put on a puppet show.
Easter egg basket
Materials needed; scissors, ribbon, construction cardboard, stapler, punch, felt tip pens, pens.
Cut out a square as in the diagram below. The outer square is the width of an A4 sheet of paper. The inner square is 5cm shorter per side. Fold along the dotted lines and cut along the bold lines from the outer square to the inner square.
Punch holes in each corner thread ribbon through each hole, joining them to the diagonally opposite hole. Fold the cardboard upwards along the dotted lines to form a box and staple the ends together.
Now decorate your Easter egg box with some shredded tissue paper or confetti or whatever takes your fancy.

Prayers for my son |

Morning fellow believers!
Please can I ask that you hold my son, Ben in your prayers.
Last week we had a horrific accident close to my office, I drove past it not realising my son was in attendance on scene. An 18 wheeler lorry came off the top bridge at Spaghetti Junction, and crashed 2 bridges below onto the N3, onto a 4x4.
The driver in the lorry died immediately and his passenger was trapped under the lorry. My son got under the lorry to help the guy who had serious breathing difficulty so as he was intubating (spl) (pushing a tube down the throat to open up the airway) the guy spat out into Ben's face and straight into Ben's eyes. Ben should have been wearing goggles but he rushed straight to the patient (silly but understandable) and although he had on the gloves, the goggles were in the car a distance away, and so he chose to help the guy breath.
Ben was taken straight to hospital for an eye wash and given anti-retroviral drugs which he now has to take for the next month. The patient will not be tested for HIV unless he gives permission and in any case, the window period for HIV would not necessarily give a true picture of infection.
So, we pray that Ben will be OK and that if the patient was HIV positive, the anti-retrovirals will do their job!
