  Skandia fears SA exposure

Stockholm - Despite its recommendation to shareholders to reject Old Mutual's takeover bid on Friday, Skandia's board said that it wouldn't seek alternative bidders or "take any action to frustrate" Old Mutual's offer.

  Elana Meyer climbs Kilimanjaro
Posted by: TheDuck - 23-09-2005, 02:10 PM - Forum: SportsTalk - No Replies

Great to see this Big Grin

Elana conquers Kilimanjaro
She was top of the pops in African athletics for years but last week Elana Meyer got to literally look down on the rest of the continent.

Scaling Africa's highest peak of Kilimanjaro was the achievement of a lifelong ambition outside of athletics and something she won't regret for a minute. "It was honestly one of the best weeks of my life," said Meyer, 38.

Not being the mountaineering type it was with slight trepidation that Meyer started the slog two Sundays ago via the lesser travelled Western route and summited five days later.

"Apparently it was just the perfect time of the year to get to the top. September is the best month, we had clear weather and there was a full moon. It was absolutely unreal," she said.

  Travelling to SA
Posted by: carolinesaunders - 23-09-2005, 10:48 AM - Forum: Travel and Immigration - No Replies

:help:
I was born in South Africa but never ever applied for a south african passport. My dad was born in the uk, so three years ago, I applied for a british passport and came over to the uk. I have been home three times, and most recently May 2005, I never had any problems using my uk passport when entering and departing from SA.
Although now I believe that if you were born in sa, you need to enter and leave on a sa passport. Does this still apply if you have never had a sa passport, and does this mean that I will need to apply for a south african passport?
My UK passport says issued in Durban, South Africa, but it says BRITISH CITIZEN. How do you find out if you have dual citizenship or not?
I have tried phoning the south african house, but they all have different stories. I am going to sa in May 2006 and dont want to have any problems when travelling. Can you help?
