  Chelsea in trouble again
Posted by: mcamp999 - 09-09-2005, 09:40 AM - Forum: The Football Season - No Replies

The Football Association has charged Chelsea with misconduct for carrying out "independent private drug testing on some of its players" last year.
The FA alleges Chelsea breached Rule E25, which forbids private testing.

Chelsea said the charges were directly related to striker Adrian Mutu, who was subsequently sacked for taking cocaine.

The Premiership champions have until 23 September to respond and said they would "vigorously" defend themselves against the charge.

"The club feels that it has done nothing morally wrong," Chelsea said in a statement.

The FA charge relates to 12 July 2004, when Chelsea tested a number of players at pre-season training.

Chelsea is absolutely committed to the fight against drugs in football

Chelsea statement
The FA rule says: "The independent private testing/screening of players by clubs, club officials or any other person subject to FA rules is prohibited."

Chelsea said the test the club carried out on Mutu had proved negative.

"Subsequently, the same player failed an FA approved drugs test for cocaine and his contract with Chelsea was terminated," said the club statement.

"During the hearing into this failed test he also admitted to taking this Class A drug on several occasions."

The FA does not allow independent testing in case it leads to incidents where clubs could try to cover up drug use by squad members.

The Chelsea statement continued: "Chelsea is absolutely committed to the fight against drugs in football.

"We believe we have demonstrated this by our actions and would never attempt to contravene any rules in order to cover up drugs in sport.

"We have made it clear publicly that we will adopt a zero tolerance policy to anybody who fails a drug test and rejects the chance of help and rehabilitation when offered by the club."

Chelsea also sacked Australian keeper Mark Bosnich in January 2003 after he tested positive for cocaine.

  SA to visit India
Posted by: mcamp999 - 09-09-2005, 09:39 AM - Forum: SportsTalk - No Replies

South Africa have confirmed they will play five one-day internationals in India in November.
The sides played two Test matches at the same time last year, the home side winning 1-0 after a draw at Kanpur.

But they were unable to play the one-day series at the same time because both sides had other tour commitments.

Graeme Smith's men will play a single warm-up before opening the series in Hyderabad on 16 November. The last game is in Mumbai (Bombay) 12 days later.

The tourists have yet to receive a final ruling on whether opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs and spinner Nicky Boje will be able to make the trip without fear of arrest.

The duo were accused of match-fixing in India in 2000 and want guarantees they will not be interrogated during this trip.

  Why women cry
Posted by: oe-la-la - 09-09-2005, 08:17 AM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - No Replies

Why do Women Cry?

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he asked God. He said, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said:

" When I made the woman she had to be special.
I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides." :lovef:

Wie het ooit gese Londen is 'n hartelose stad?
Posted by: Pronkertjie - 08-09-2005, 01:45 PM - Forum: Praat Afrikaans - No Replies

Beeld-deurloop

Cecille Cilliers

Geoff is Engelse onderwyser by 'n hoog aangeskrewe seunskool in Kaapstad.

Of amper.

Who would have believed that after such a poor start, they still have a chance (albeit an outsude chance) to qualify. If the England team showed half the commitment of this team, they would be smiling and world beaters.

What a turn up for the book. Was quite funny seeing the expression on the prima donna's faces. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the system used, the supposed quality of the England players should have won easily. The players should take most of the blame.
