  The Mayonnaise Jar and Coffee
Posted by: Pronkertjie - 20-10-2004, 01:30 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - Replies (2)

The Mayonnaise Jar and Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours
in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the coffee...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very
large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into
the jar.

He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between
the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and
poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a
unanimous "yes." The professor then produced two cups of coffee from
under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
important things --- your God, your family, your children, your health,
your friends, and your favorite passions --- things that if everything
else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house,
and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff. "If you
put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for
the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all
your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for
the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that
are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to
get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal."
Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set
your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to
show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always
room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

HEEEELP What have I done to my poor PC?
Posted by: Bean of Love - 19-10-2004, 06:06 PM - Forum: Your Computers, Gadgets and Software - Replies (9)

Yesterday I got this icon saying that I have updates to install... This wonderful update was the XP service pack 2. Which I installed.

Today, my screen looks different and I am freeeeeking out! I now have to scroll up and down to see what programmes I have open and the Quickstart menu at the bottom (next to my START) is not hidden anymore, I now see all the icons.

Please tell me this can be fixed.

I don't even know how to Google for this.... what would I search for?

  A Thing Called Love
Posted by: Venus - 17-10-2004, 09:10 PM - Forum: Your Food and Entertainment - No Replies

Has anyone else been watching "A Thing Called Love" on Tuesdays, 9pm, BBC1? It's been brilliant! Do you think Gary will end up with Paula?

Below is Gary's poem that he read out in Episode 1:

"One day, I'll get old and I'll get ill and I'll die.
And if I'm lucky, I'll meet the reason why it's all been worth while.
And every time she walks into a room... I'll not be able to breathe.
And every time I walk down a street where she's trod but she's not now, the path'll ring wi' her name.
Every bit of town that's familiar to me, where I live, where I go, it'll cry out without her.
I'll be a dead man surrounded by the living until she's by my side.
Because she gives me breath and fills my head with thoughts."

  Silly Xp Question
Posted by: Bean of Love - 17-10-2004, 05:17 PM - Forum: Your Computers, Gadgets and Software - Replies (6)

Hi,

I feel quite embarrased to ask, but my head is really not co-operating at the moment.

Where do I change the setting for "hybernation" .... well at least that is what I call it.

My problem is... I have two user accounts set up on my laptop, but when either of us is unactive for 5 minutes, we get logged out and have to go into the user account again. AND when we get logged out, the computer takes about 15-20 minutes to hybernate.

I have not looked to see where I can change it, and no luck whatsoever. I do not what the computer to log me out of my account if I quickly check on the food in the kitchen, and I definitely do not want the silly thing to switch off when I am not around....

Any suggestions?
