Dr Joseph-Ignace Gullotine was upset by unfair treatment of prisoners who were put to the death. Aristocratic criminals were allowed a quick and painless death, whereas commenors were subjected to public. slow, torterous forms of execution. As a step toward eliminating the death penalty completely, Guillotin pushed for a more humane method to be used for all classes. Unfortunately his lobbying worked all too well...
