The Bop was a very popular dance on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" during the summer oh 1957. Hoping to cash in on the dance craze, Danny and the Juniors took the song to Dick Clark to see if he could use it on his show. Clark, ever-mindful of teenage trends, advised them that The Bop was on the way out, and suggested they call the song "At the Hop".
