The Champs for "Tequila"
The Champs were a group of session players who were recording tracks fora Jerry Wallace record. At the end of the session there were a few minutes to spare so they improvised a song that saxophonist Danny Flores had written during a visit to Mexico. It was considered a throwaway track that would be released as filler on an instrumental album or used as a b-side for a single. No-one expected it to shoot to the top of the charts and spend 5 weeks there.
