The U.S. Postal Service kicked off its fourteen-part Legends of American Music with a stamp commemorating the young Elvis in January 1993. The stamp became one of the biggest-selling stamps in American history, but it was not the first stamp to honour Elvis. New Guinea was the first country to immortalize Presley on a stamp, closely followed by the Republic of Central Africa and Germany.
