It comes from the 1956 hit "Tutti Fruiti". He had been performing this song in clubs for several years under the title "Wop-Bop-A-Loo-Bop" and with racy, obscene lyrics. The song brought down the house every night, but could never be committed to vinyl with out drastically altering the words. This was done in about an hour by Dorothy LaBostrie. Little Richard recorded the new clean version of this song in 15 mins, nailing it for posterity on the second take.
