Arrival of stuff from SA |

My partner received my personal stuff from Cape Town today. I'd been looking forward to it as my mom had included a table that my late father had made for her when they got married. It's a one off and it was beautifully hand carved. I had moved the lounge around to accomodate it and couldn't wait for it's arrival. The table has travelled the world, from Hong Kong (where it was made) to the UK, to Scotland, and to SA. It was packed by a reputable removal company and left the house in one piece.
It has made it here ........ in pieces. :bigcry: One leg is off, one side has been pulled off and is in pieces. It's stupid coz I know its a table and therefore only material but i'm gutted. It was part of my father and mother and in a way I feel like I've lost him again.
In SA the insurance company that was used for household wouldn't insure it, so for all its life it has never had insurance and the removale company wouldn't as its irreplaceable. In a way it should have stayed but mom wanted me to have it.
Photo's will be taken and we will try to get some sort of recompense(spelling) for it but it won't be enough to pay for restoration. The table was carved with flower blossom and a chinese story 'playing' across the table top. To match it up is not going to be easy.

Is the Tri-Nations becoming boring for rugby fans ? Had a few discussions with saffer rugby supporters and theyre all for the "old style" rugby tours, International teams playing midweek games v provinces and 3 test matches.
Anyone feeling the same ?

Hello all
So, when visiting SA do you take Rands, Dollars, Pounds TC's or sommer use your credit cards?
I would welcome anyone advising which to take?
I mean if you take Rands then there is no benefit to our mense... but I guess taking Dollars or Pounds you can haggle??
giggle....
Nothing beats a bit of forward planning!
only 23 weeks to go! then we will be going

My mond hang oop
Vrede
Stephan

Where do you buy or borrow your Books from ? |

I was wondering which stores are the most popular ? And if you borrow do you borrow from friends or the library ?
I personally belong to the library and borrow enough books so that I never am stuck for choice. I must say my favourite shop is Borders, (perhaps it is the lure of Starbucks) but for the most part I buy from Amazon - they just have the best prices and choice.

(Dont laugh)
I have not travelled in and out of JBG for business in more than a decade and have now been commanded to attend a meeting (amongst others) in Marshaltown. Client warned it is a high risk area.
I need to attend 4 meetings ranging form Marshaltown to Sandton to Midrand, to Pretoria, in one day, and do not feel confident enough in those woods to self drive. Particularly the Marshaltown one is worrying. Where could one find a reputable SA 'business taxi service' who will drive & wait in between meetings throughout the day?
