  Help With Tax Codes Etc
Posted by: Bean of Love - 03-07-2006, 07:20 PM - Forum: Business and Finance - Replies (1)

I am hoping to get some help here.

When I lost my job in April, a friend of mine, who used to consult for the company I worked for wanted me to immigrate to the US, where he is now based, after immigrating himself in April 2006. In his efforts to do so and to help me obtain a visa for the USA, he told his accountants that I worked for him, and he paid me a consulting fee. He didn't pay me any money and I didn't work for him either, although he has a company registered here in the UK.

I decided that this is not the way I want to get into another country because it would mean that I would have to lie, and I didn't want to do that. So I told him that I would rather wait until I have my British Citizenship and then try to apply for a US visa. I also don't want this to affect my ILR application or my Citizen application.

Inititally I went along, but after a few days (less than 2 weeks) I told him that I do not feel comfortable in lying. Needless to say he was not happy, but accepted it.

To cut a long story short...

I got a P60 from my old company with a tax code on it and now I have also received a P60 from his company with a fictitious amount, but the same tax code. I phoned the tax office today and told them that I have these 2 P60's. The lady told me that the tax code is wrong and I should've been taxed at a different rate 'coz I had two incomes. She said to send both the P60's to them with a covering letter. If I do that, that means that I admit to working for this guy, which I don't want to do.

I have since started a new job and I earn a lot less than what I did before, so I don't want to end up having my tax code adjusted and then get duffed by the tax man.

What should I do???

Please help.

  Droom bestemming van alle Raffajees
Posted by: Pronkertjie - 03-07-2006, 06:25 AM - Forum: Praat Afrikaans - No Replies

Cecille Cilliers

Bepaald iets oor Indië, gaap ek, of dalk ’n nuwe politieke party in KwaZulu-Natal.

Klink my nogal nodig, daar.

Will George be slayed as England's patron saint?
Posted by: mcamp999 - 03-07-2006, 04:30 AM - Forum: Banter and ALL - Replies (8)

His dragon-slaying heroics have kept his legend alive through the centuries.

But the Church of England is considering rejecting England's patron saint St George on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims.

  Alarm over beef imports
Posted by: mcamp999 - 03-07-2006, 04:22 AM - Forum: Banter and ALL - No Replies

Fears about eating beef from cattle pumped up with growth hormones have been raised by a government expert.

John Verrall said there is alarming evidence it can trigger breast and other cancers, bring forward puberty in girls and increase the risk of genital abnormalities in boys.
