  Voelverskrikkers op die land

Die grondpad kronkel ongelyk voor my uit tussen die groen golwende koringlande. Iewers naby klap ‘n skoot… Verder vorentoe sien ek die ligte bruin sandgrond van ‘n geploegde land – ek moet my tree mooi kies tussen die graspolle en waterplasse met die spore van trekker, duidelik op die pad.
Van ver sien ek hulle, landbouers aan’t werk op die land – plant en saai in die sagte vrugbare grond.
Maar dan word die arms en bene slap en wapper onbeheersd in die ligte briesie. My landbouers word voëlverskrikkers op ‘n land kosbare saad – dansend in die wind moet hulle hongerige voëls weghou om later ‘n geil oes te verseker.

So ken ek haar vandag nog. Die een dag bied sy vriendelik ‘n koppie tee aan en kuier gesellig oor familie, koetjies en kalfies. Maar net die volgende dag, word jy stywerig gegroet en dan vir die res van die besoek, vereer met ‘n teenwoordigheid sonder woorde en moet ek al die geselswerk doen, vra vra en dan sommer eie antwoorde soek so in my eie geselskap. Nes ‘n blom sonder kleur, dié gesig sonder glimlag.

Dié oumatjie het ek leer ken saam met manlief en só het almal haar geken tot en met haar dood. Altyd klere gemaak vir bure vir ‘n ekstra geldjie vir die ou rookdingetjie, want die pensioen was maar min. En ai, sy weet tog sy moet die rook laat staan, maar dis tog die enigste ou plesiertjie in die lewe wat sy nog het. Want Janneman kom dan nie meer kuier nie en kom haal haar ook nie meer om te kuier op die plaas nie; bel ook nie meer nie. Sy was altyd bly om ons te sien maar gou het die gesprek gegaan oor die een of ander ernstige siekte-skeet wat haar by die dokter gehad het. Simpatieke aandag het haar net méér laat voortkug op dié onverwagse, welkome ongesteldheid.

Dié groot, sterk Hollander wat busse bestuur en altyd help om motors te herstel, het ons hier leer ken. Ons, hoe gaan dit, word altyd besug met hangskouers en depressie wat praat van ‘n lewensmoegheid en negatiwiteit wat hulp en raad se mond toestop. Vriende is daar lank nie meer nie, alleen dié wat nog waag om nader te kom om sy kennis te gebruik.

En so het ons elkeen voëlverskrikkers in ons wat ander weghou. Die verskil tussen hulle en dié op die geploegde land, is ‘n stroper wat oor die land loop en die oes inhaal. Dié in ons word later eensame figure op ‘n land, vergete, alleen in die wind en weer van die lewe. Selfs die kraaie gaan sit later op hulle en pik hier en daar geïrriteerd aan die stopsels van die lyf.

“Ons moet sommer die bus vat Parys toe en gaan inboek in ‘n lekker hotel vir ons volgende huweliksherdenking” se manlief ewe entoesiasties noudie dag.
“Jaaa, maar jong, ons het nog nooit vir Dolla by iemand gelos vir ‘n nag nie en sy is nog nie mooi gepottytrain in die nag nie… en miskien moet ons wag tot daar weer ‘n special is, want dit kn nogal duur raak …”, twyfel ek voort op die ekonomiese noot.
“Moet jy altyd my bubble bars?” vra hy sommer ergerlik!

En daar wapper my voëlverskrikker toe met arms en bene tegelyk, sonder wind.

Lyons said he has a team in place in Namibia, but that none of his photographers have been arrested. He added someone - perhaps even the midwife - with a small camera or one built into their mobile phone stood to make a lot of money.

"You could probably buy Namibia with that picture," he said, estimating the first picture of Pitt and Jolie's baby would be worth $5 million.

Looking at the 5 day BBC forecast it says that we will have light rain the one day.....

and

light showers the next day....

What is the difference between the two?

It is raining quite hard right now and the forecast is light rain :rainy:
