Ugly by Constance Briscoe

Looks like quite a powerful read - from the childhood she had to where she is now - I'm sure this is also inspiring.

my husband and I are going to Dubai from 26 May - 29t May (over the UK bank holiday) and we are staying at the Jumeniah beach hotel (or its called something like that). Looking so forward to it.
has anyone been to Dubai, or anyone have anything to tell me about it, or what I should avoid, or definitely go and see etc. Smile

  Visa Help?
Posted by: Bean of Love - 31-01-2006, 11:17 AM - Forum: Immigration - No Replies

A friend of mine who works in HR has the following dilemma... can you perhaps help me help her?

"He came to England on 27 April 2005 He has a working holiday maker visa, the work permit expiries on 10.03.06 but he can stay until 2007 on my holiday visa his passport expires in November 2014 ... don't know the exact day

This guy is South African, my understanding on this is that on a holiday maker visa you can work in the UK but has to be less that 12 months. Can he extend this to work longer or would he need apply for a separate workers permit

I have spent a while trawling through government websites but can't seem to get a definitive answer"

To answer a question elsewhere on the boards and one that often crops up.

For those that aren't on lap tops:

Hold down the alt key and type 136 on the numeric keyboard for the ê.
For the ë hold down the alt key and type 137 on the numeric keyboard.

These are done using the extended ASCII character set.

Here's a link to the extended ASCII character table.

Interesting this, particularly in view of the anti-SA brigade who are convinced that a degree from as SA uni has been downgraded. With my daughter having started her law degree over here, it was very interesting to hear that many of the universities offer the option of doing their third year in a foreign country. Guess what? South Africa features very highly on the list of options. She is probably going to be doing her 3rd year at Rhodes.

  Unabridged birth certificate
Posted by: carolinesaunders - 30-01-2006, 02:57 PM - Forum: Travel and Immigration - No Replies

I posted a thread earlier, but basically this may make more sense.
In order for my husband to apply for his SA passport, he needs his unabridged birth certificate (or copy). Now ,this takes 5 months to receive, and we are travelling in two months. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
