Ruth Wakefield invented the chocolate chip cookie one night while baking her famous Butter Drop Do cookies at the Toll House Inn. Her recipe called for baker's chocolate, but none was to be found. So she cut up some semisweet chocolate and substituted it in her recipe. To her surpize, the chocolate didn't melt completely. It was Andrew Nestlé who had given her the chocolate bar as a gift and later agreed to print the Toll House cookie recipe on Nestlé's packaging. Invented just over 70 years ago, the chocolate chip cookie is said to be the most popular cookie, with 7 billion eaten annually.

High-tech's first female billionaire, Meg Whitham, is founder and CEO of eBay.
