This was in 1958. Using the stage name David Seville, he scored a hit with "Witch Doctor" which stayed at number one for 3 weeks. The song featured a sped-up voice as the hook. Trying to repeat the success of "Witch Doctor" he created The Chipmunks, who have sold over 25 million records to date.
