Curio Wrote::mmm: could it be "Lola"???
Ray Davies claims the song is based on a true story. In interviews over the years his story has changed, but it does seem clear that he was drinking in a pub when his fancy turned to a young woman at the bar. It wasn't until the light stubble on the "woman's" face became apparent that the inspiration for this song was born. The song was banned in Australia because of its unusual subject matter. It was almost banned in Britain as well, but not for its sexual imagery. The BBC has a very strict policy about advertisements - they don't run them. The line in "Lola" that mentions Coca-Cola constituted an ad, and would have to be changed if the song was to find airplay in Britain. The band rerecorded the offending line, replacing the brand name with the acceptable "cherry cola".
 And to think that Cherry Cola is now a brand name
Let's go 80s
