"She's Gone" was written about Daryl Hall's divorce from Bryna Lublin and john Oates' experience of being stood up on New Year's Eve. When the single was originally released in 1974, it didn't get much airplay. The second try at success (in 1976) earned it a gold record, and kick started the careers of Hall and Oates.
