They were recorded in the basement of Big Pink in West Saugerties, New York while Dylan was recuperating from a broken neck. The tapes were not officially released until 1975 and by that time they had been turned into one of the most widely bootlegged records ever. Manfred Mann covered "The Mighty Quinn".
