It is thought that Bob Dylan is the :jester: , The Beatles are the marching band, although Mclean has never confirmed these suspicions. He does concede though that "the day the music died" was Feb. 3 1959. The tune is also interesting because it begins in mono and gradually moves to stereo during its 9 min length as Mclean wanted to symbolize the history of rock and roll.
