Priests in the Roman Empire liked to insert days and months into the calender to extend the terms of politicians who gave them favourable treatment. Since the Roman calender had only 10 months with 304 days, it did not cover the entire span of the seasons and there was room for extra segments of time. However, not all these politicians were allies of Caesar. When Caesar decided he had had enough, he constructed a calendar that spanned the entire year and made sure the politicians' terms ended on time.
