Cooking @ The Cape Cookery school
Posted by: Cheffie - 10-05-2006, 08:33 AM - Forum: Food Matters - Replies (16)

Hi all

As some of you might know, I have been asked to host a cookery school on Sundays in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire.
Course prices and available dates will be posted later on, along with website details etc.

Course objectives:

'A wide range of courses are available to suit most aspiring cooks and people with an interest in food.
Making cookery more accessible to those with a little flair and a dose of passion and hopefully reducing the fear factor for people in the kitchen.
Celebrating the seasons with a classical approach and contemporary influences whilst concentrating on regional and enticing exotic produce.
The courses are designed with a hands-on approach to be a little more interactive and hopefully inspire you to develop your palate in a fun and exciting way.
From the basics of filleting a fish to the more intricate art of pastry work, Grant and his team will lead you through the courses smoothly and efficiently.
Knife skills, cooking methods, tips4cooks, equipment recommendations, suppliers and a host of other insider information will be available to the attendees.

Some of the courses offered include:

Fish and shellfish
Seafood master class – white fish/ game fish cookery
Couples Cooking
Men in the kitchen
Entertaining at home
BBQ including South African potjiekos
Meat and poultry
Basic cookery – German/ Italian/ Portuguese/ South African/ Classic French/ British
Venison and game
Vegetarian
Sauces, stocks and soups

There will be opportunities for some people to come and spend the evening working and observing service in a busy, high volume kitchen.'

As it's a new business, it'll take a little time to set up and finalise all the details. Thought I'd give the locals a heads-up Wink

Many thanks to all who responded in the thread about motivation for attending a cookery school.
G

  The Interview Update
Posted by: TracyW - 09-05-2006, 06:31 PM - Forum: Banter and ALL - Replies (22)

Thanks for all the well wishes this morning.

The interview was at a company I have worked for before. I originally left due to office politics. The manger of our department having an affair with a co-worker and it led to loads of problems in the office.

2 years away from them I have found myself again looking for work due to things not working out where I am for various reasons. I happened to contact someone as the old company and they currently have a position vacant. SO .... the interview went well, in fact walking in was just so comfortable, seeing faces that I knew and everyone being so nice when seeing me.
The interview was with someone I knew from before so it was all a very relaxing environment and not normally the tense and nervous ones we are used to.

It went well and he has asked me to come back for a second interview with the sales director ... who luckily I know too!

It's going to mean not finishing at 5 like I do now, but probably getting out not much before 6 pm and then an hours travel home which I have now anyway. But ... if I want to stop working for mickey mouse firms, feel comfortable and stable in my working place then there are things that have to be sacrificed too. Only part, other than the second interview, is the salary negotiation.

Cool :daisy:

Just a quick q: I have a S.A. and a Portuguese passport. Do I need to have a letter stating that I am able to hold both? I have heard that you do, then I was told that they no longer require you to have the letter....now I read that someone was asked for the letter.... What is going on... the rules seem to change like the weather in the UK!

If I need a letter, could anyone please tell me where I need to go in order to get one? Would I have to go to the dreaded S.A. house or may I apply on line?
Confusedad:

I feel the same way about the S.A passport, it is not as if we get anything for having it! We cannot even travel into our own country without complications....

HI,

I have a question... I work in London (have been for the past 4 years) and am here on a Portuguese passport. I was born in South Africa and therefore an a holder of a S.A passport too... I know am wanting to go and work in Oz for a while but am finding it difficult... I have had a look on their immigration website and neither S.A. nor Portugal seem to have a reciprocal agreement with OZ for a working Holiday visa!!!!! AAARRRGGGHHH :bigcry:

Would anyone know what I could do to gain a visa? I do not think that I am eligible for a skilled migrant working visa either...the only option I can see is that I be lucky enough to find a company who will be willing to sponsor me (I work in finance)

As I am in the UK on my Portuguese passport, would I be able to apply for Brithish Citizenship on the back of my S.A. passport (even if I have to relinquish my S.A. passport) Am going to call the S.A. House today, but am a bit "scared" as youo know how helpful they can be!!!!

  SA Passport renewal
Posted by: saffas - 08-05-2006, 10:43 PM - Forum: Travel and Immigration - Replies (13)

I have received permission SA saying that I can go ahead and apply for British citizenship without losing my South African citizenship. I need to renew my South African passport but it says on their website that I need the following: "A letter from the British Home Office confirming that you have not acquired British Citizenship. The letter should not be more than four- (4) months old."I have now acquired British Citizenship. Does anyone know what needs to be done?
