  Aargh Help!!!
Posted by: Bushbaby - 12-05-2005, 07:35 AM - Forum: Food Matters - Replies (17)

We were at church last night and got talking to one of the people there. Anyhow, somehow, we have volunteered to have a South African braai for the whole ward(local parish)!!!

This will take place in June sometime - date to be confirmed - and we (i.e two people) will be cooking for about 200 people!!!!!!!!!

Now, the obvious potato salad, noodle salad and sousboontjies are going to be present. Also, boerewors, chicken sosaties, possibly lamb sosaties, and toasted sandwiches (done on the braai) are on the menu. Dessert will be milktart (cos it can be made in advance).

What else should be on the table (bearing in mind we have a budget)?

  Americanised school prayer.....makes on think....
Posted by: Joan - 11-05-2005, 06:16 PM - Forum: Christian Faith Praise - Replies (17)

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed
in most public schools anymore Because the word "God" is mentioned....

A kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer.

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

Smokers should not bedshare with babies
Posted by: dudette - 11-05-2005, 04:20 PM - Forum: Parenting and Children - Replies (13)

While feeling a little relieved that I have never smoked so I am not at risk, I did feel upset on behalf of mothers who do smoke and have babies. I used to find it such a godsend in the early hours of the morning when my babies were still breastfeeding three-hourly, to let them sleep next to me. I used to love snuggling up to that little body, although, granted, it wasn't very restful waking up every now and then to check we hadn't smothered him or her! :haha:
The mother/child bond is so important, so having to put your baby in its cold cot can't be right
Sad
What do you think?

  Most important athlete of all-time?
Posted by: jedione12 - 10-05-2005, 10:13 PM - Forum: SportsTalk - Replies (8)

There was an interesting read in playboy's june issue where they interviewed Lance Armstrong, mentioning him as possibly being the most important athlete of all-time. I guess I never really thought of him like that before, but after reading through, this guy overcame 12 tumors, goes on to win the Tour de France 6 times in a row, and helped raise close to $40 million for cancer by selling those simple yellow bracelets for $1 each...he has my vote.

Just wondering what everyone else's opinion is?

  Spysubtract -VERY good Spyware Zapper
Posted by: angelbabe - 10-05-2005, 10:47 AM - Forum: Your Computers, Gadgets and Software - No Replies

During my ongoing quest to ZAP spyware and critters I have come across this programme. I have been testing its ability by allowing spyware onto my pc and I have to say that this is the best spyware removal and prevention tool i have tested thusfar. You can configure it to scan at startup too. It is only a 30 day trial tho.

http://www.intermute.com/products/spysubtract.html

NB when you have installed it, be sure to update the definitions before scanning. I failed to do this at first and when I did, it found over 100 new things. Good idea to scan in safe mode too.
