Fax on my phone line ??
Posted by: Piet Bloubul - 02-04-2004, 08:47 PM - Forum: Your Computers, Gadgets and Software - Replies (4)

I had broadband installed a while ago and it work fine but when i receive a tel call the line sound the same as a fax line. As soon as i disconnect from the int the line is clear again.

This don't happen everytime, but with about 80% of the calls.

I phoned my isp and bt, both say their sides are clear. I don't have a fax on the line, but did use the pc fax, but i've disabled and now uninstalled it.

What can cause this ?

Any help please.

Our cat (the three legged one) has lost a lot of weight in the space of a week, despite eating as much as ever. I have also noticed that he is drinking a lot of water lately. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

A little poem by my daughter...

My daughter presented me with a sweet little poem this morning that she has been working on.

Blue is the coulour of a witches potion,
Blue is the colour of the soothing ocean,
Blue is the way you feel inside,
Blue is the colour of a baby's ride,
Blue is the colour of cold blood,
Blue is the colour of a water flood.

  Biltong spice
Posted by: whirlpool - 02-04-2004, 03:15 AM - Forum: Your Food and Entertainment - Replies (18)

i had over a kg of biltong spices that has somehow absorbed moisture and has turned to a course treacle - it smells nice but i am reluctant to use it. i have never made up these spices, always relying on buying premixed spices.

i could not resist as the rump was selling at $9.99kg for a whole rump (appox £4.10!!) - so have three dik pieces for the family, to braai tomorrow and the rest will be dried, but......:bigcry: no spice

Does anybody have a good recipe mix for biltong spices so that it tastes like that made at your local butcher / plaas Wink
please...

  NB. Looking for a recipe??
Posted by: angelbabe - 01-04-2004, 02:19 PM - Forum: Food Matters - Replies (21)

I know the forum is pretty new still so there wont be a huge database of recipes yet, but may I suggest that in order to avoid lots of the same recipes being posted click search button which is between the f.a.q and home buttons to check if the recipe you want to post or one you are looking for is not already here. EG, if you have a nice muffin recipe, or if you are looking for one, click search button, type in muffin and if there are any recipes, they will come up.

Yellow rice which goes well with bototie. (obtained from Kaapse Tafel Restaurant, Victoria str., opp. the Planetarium)

Serves
2 Persons.
Ingredients
1 cup rice
2 cups water
1 tablespoon oil + or -
turmeric
salt
raisins as you wish
Directions
Heat oil a little.
Add rice Stir till coated.
Add water & salt
Add raisins & turmeric (watch for colour by adding a little at a time!)
Cook gently for 10 min. Covered on low heat, simmer.
When most of the water is absorbed. Switch off stove & let the rice swell on the cooling plate.
Cooking time depends on the quality of the rice.
You may like to add a touch of brown sugar but I don't like the taste.

  Afrikaans Readers
Posted by: Bushbaby - 01-04-2004, 10:44 AM - Forum: The Book Club - Replies (3)

Do we have anyone out there who reads in Afrikaans?

Following on from a comment someone else made here, I went and ordered some of Dalene Matthee's books. So far I have read:

Kringe in 'n Bos
Brug van die Esels
Toorbos

Still to read I have

Fiela se Kind
Pieternella van die Kaap

I was unable to get Suster van Eva, the prequel to Pieternella.

It was hard going at first but halfway through the first book the reading got easier and it has to be said, my spoken Afrikaans has improved dramatically since reading these books. The only downside has been a very strong homesickness that has come over me since reading her books - hopefully that will pass in time as well.

I bought three beautiful "standard" fuchsias, they are about 1m tall, transplanted on some other plant..Ow kay, my question is, should I prune them now or wait and see whether they will grow after the mild winter? The brances are not dead/ dry... seem flexible to me.

Just being nosy/curious to know what radio station(s) you Globalbuzzers listen to?
I tried Virgin radio earlier on today. Must admit it was nice to listen to a different station & made a nice change.
