  Pink Floyd

How many Pink Floyd fans do we have here? I'm busy having a Floyd evening. There is something about their music that hits one deep within the soul. What is your favourite song or album?

  Baby names
Posted by: newborn - 26-01-2004, 09:35 PM - Forum: Parenting and Children - Replies (24)

Before you all think the worst ................... IT IS NOT FOR ME!!!!!!!!!

A friend in SA is preggies and expecting a boy in March. (sister in law is also preggies - due the same time) so this is a question on thier behalf really.

Friend is English - Hubbie is Afrikaans - (very) and they are having trouble with names.

He wants Verwoed Nelson
She wants Kayne - nice spelling too!!

Now they want suggestions for some other names besides the normal - popular names - they are looking for the unusual I think.

Any suggestions peeps?? I have been to ask Jeeves and he gave me some nice ones but I wondered what other names there are to choose from.
I know there is another thread on names but they seem to be mainly female and I am looking for male.

My brother and his wife are naming thier baby Connor which is a lovely name.

I am also interested in the meaning of the names suggested.

Many thanks

XXXX

All flights go via Rotterdam and the prices are very good. Nice alternative to Ryanair, Go and Easyjet.

  Domestic Cats
Posted by: Bushbaby - 26-01-2004, 11:25 AM - Forum: Fauna - Replies (8)

We have a 3 legged, vegetarian cat at home and he has a few problems that I am hoping someone here can provide some insight to.

The first, and most worrying problem, is that he suffers from a weepy eye. The fluid produced is reddish, leading us to believe it is blood. The vet was uncertain what it was and gave us a cream to apply to the eye, which hasn't helped.

The second problem is that he has very recurved claws. He certainly spends enough time sharpening his claws, but they hook on everything. He cannot even jump off a couch or bed without the claws hooking on something.

The third problem is his bad breath - the vet said he had a slight plaque build up on his teeth, and a minor gum infection, but provided nothing to treat it.

Any ideas and/or suggestions?

Right now I am listening to "The Lord of the Dance" and my feet can't keep still...

Is there any music that does that to you and if yes what is it and do you know why ?

Rocking against the system - an album discussion
Posted by: Jangar - 25-01-2004, 11:35 AM - Forum: Your Music - Replies (10)

It's always a daunting task starting a new concept and I had plenty of dilemas choosing the first album for our discussion. So I played it safe and chose a compilation Wink

For those of you don't have the album here is the track listing:

1. e'Void - Taximan
2. Via Afrika - Hey Boy
3. Bright Blue - Window On The World
4. Tribe After Tribe - Damsel
5. Ellamental - Clowns
6. Celtic Rumours - Slow Rain
7. Dog Detachment - Miracle (Waiting For A..)
8. Petit Cheval - Magical Touch
9. No Friends Of Harry - Competition Rules
10. Asylum Kids - Schoolboy
11. The Helicopters - Mysteries & Jealousies
12. The Spectres - Teddy Bear
13. Falling Mirror - Johnny Calls The Chemist
14. The Dynamics - Thugs
15. Peach - Complicated Games
16. Flash Harry - Shame On You
17. The Sweatband - This Boy <----- (This has now been corrected)
18. Psycho Reptiles - Monster From The Bog

To me this is one of the greatest compilations ever, not only because I grew up with songs and artists but because they also reflect South Africa in the 1980's, the despair of the system, the hopes of a better future. And they sound good too Smile

If I have to have one criticism of the album it's the fact that there are two artists missing; Juluka and Mango Groove. Perhaps Benjy (Mudie) had to omit them from this album because of copyrights or perhaps they weren't 'Rocking against the System' enough.

What are your thoughts ? What do you think of this album ? Do you have a favourite song / artist on it ?

  Hostas
Posted by: PomBok - 23-01-2004, 04:55 PM - Forum: Flora - Replies (4)

I want to have a few hostas in my new blank canvas. But the last time I introduced hostas in to a garden the were subject to a Hosta-ile takeover by them damned slugs.

I prefer to garden organically if I can, but none of the old wives tales of beer, or egg shells etc. seem to work. Anyone got a foolproof method for dealing with the slimey critters?

Thanks in advance
DaPom
