  Taxis and child seats
Posted by: dudette - 22-01-2004, 12:28 PM - Forum: Parenting and Children - Replies (3)

I recently visited a friend in another city and was surprised to discover that none of the taxis there carried car seats for babies. Now, considering the legislation regarding carrying children in vehicles, how does this affect taxi drivers carrying small children?
Luckily as my child is just over 9 months, I took her carry-on car seat, but what happens when she's older? If we do get pulled over by the police who will have to pay any fine, the parent or the driver?

Who else has had to use a taxi, and what was your experience?

  First week of school
Posted by: Zulu_Foxtrot - 22-01-2004, 06:38 AM - Forum: Parenting and Children - Replies (6)

It was Ross’ first week at “big” school last week, everything was fine and then this week he tells me he has a sore throat and cannot go to school.

Anyhow I checked everything and it was all in order.

After a little questioning and some bonding Ross tells me school is too long – ah the joys of parenting.

  Madagascar Palm
Posted by: Toktokkie - 21-01-2004, 07:42 PM - Forum: Flora - Replies (6)

Does anyone know anything about this plant. I have one that I got when it was about 12 inches. I kept transplanting it and it's now about 5 ft. tall but it's lost all it's leaves.

We moved into a new house and it went into shock. It gets baby leaves and then seems to "abort" them. I've looked up on the internet and they say to neglect it during the winter months so I did that and noticed 5 new leaves. It's started aborting these leaves again. Location is right, it's away from heating vents. Can anyone help?

  Orchids

I adore these plants. I have 5 of them and would really love to "get into" them. I bought a couple books to start with. Is there anyone else who has experience with them?

My daughter and I went to this restaurant last week for lunch and they had an orchid flower as a garnish. It was beautiful but I could never pick them to serve on a plate of food to be thrown out afterwards. :bigcry:

  Iberia?
Posted by: Spacegirl - 21-01-2004, 03:04 PM - Forum: Travel and Immigration - Replies (2)

I have found that Iberia will charge me £884 inclusive of TAX for two adults and one child... ONE WAY to JHB in September.... this is by far the cheapest I can see but there is something that bothers me..... I have never heard of ppl flying Iberia to SA - there is a stop over which is a pain but to save £300 I will do it!

Anyone ever used them and would you mind commenting...

The cheapest direct I can get is Virgin at £380 each.... which is not bad.... but hell £884 for all three of us is simply brilliant!

  Ibs

I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 12, but was lucky enough not too suffer too badly with it. Unfortunately in the last couple of years it has been getting worse and worse and I stopped going out, as drinking and rich food is a bad combination and after finding myself ill in pubs and at friends houses I just thought that I couldn't do it anymore.

Just before Christmas I read in a magazine about this stuff called silicol gel. It is basically a natural substance that your body produces and aids in digestion. It can also be used to improve nails, hair and skin (including acne sufferers).

Initially I have only been taking it on weekends, as this is when I'm at my worst and this stuff has completely changed my life around. I don't get any indigestion or stomach cramps. Drinking alcohol no longer causes nausea and vomiting and I just feel so much better for it.

So if you suffer from, IBS, indegestion, skin problems or would like to re-generate nails and hair, give this stuff a try. It's not that cheap (£6.99 a bottle - lasting around a month) but it is worth it Smile

I found this website http://www.silicol.com/index.html which has all the info and details about some research they carried out on the stuff etc.

  The Perfect Dinner Table
Posted by: Toktokkie - 21-01-2004, 03:00 AM - Forum: Parenting and Children - Replies (2)

THE PERFECT DINNER TABLE

A table cloth that's slightly soiled where greasy little hands have toiled;
The napkins kept in silver rings and only ordinary things
From which to eat, a simple fare and just the wife and kiddies there,
And while I serve, the clatter glad of little girl and little lad
Who have so very much to say about the happenings of the day.

Four big round eyes that dance with glee forever flashing joys at me,
Two little tongues that race and run to tell of troubles and of fun;
The mother with a patient smile who knows that she must wait awhile
Before she'll get a chance to say what she's discovered through the day.
She steps aside for girl and lad who have so much to tell their dad.

Our manners may not be the best, perhaps our elbows often rest
Upon the table, and at times that very worst of dinner crimes,
That very shameful act and rude of speaking ere you've downed your food,
Too frequently, I fear, is done so fast the little voices run.
Yet why should table manners stay those tongues that have so much to say?

At many a table I have been where wealth and luxury were seen,
And I have dined in halls of pride where all the guests were dignified;
But when it comes to pleasure rare the perfect dinner table's where
No stranger's face is ever known, the dinner hour we spend alone,
When little girl and little lad run riot telling things to dad.
