  Food for thought
Posted by: oe-la-la - 21-09-2004, 04:14 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - Replies (2)

Many people are afraid of growing old.
I'm afraid of growing old and boring.
Many people are afraid of growing old, alone.
I'm afraid of growing old, insane.
Many people are afraid of losing their looks.
I'm afraid of losing my dreams.
Many people are afraid of losing their youth.
I'm afraid of losing my soul

Don't date because you're desperate.
Don't marry because you're miserable.
Don't drink because you have troubles.
Don't gamble because you think winning is inevitable.

Don't philander because you think you're irresistible.
Don't associate with people you can't trust.
Don't cheat.
Don't pretend.
Don't dictate because you're smarter.
Don't demand because you're stronger.
Don't sleep around because you can.
Don't sell your self, your family or your ideals.
Don't stagnate.
Don't regress.
Don't live in the past. Time can't bring anything or anyone back.

Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career.
Sometimes, there is no race to be won.

Only a price to be paid for some of life's more hasty decisions.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions and be the best of what
you can be.
Simplify your life.
Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements - abusive friends, nasty habits and
dangerous liaisons.
Don't abandon your responsibilities but don't overdose on duty.
Don't live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your
family. Be true to yourself. Don't commit when you're not ready.
Don't keep others waiting needlessly.
Go on that trip. Don't postpone it.
Say those words. Don't let the moment pass.
Do what you must even at society's scorn.
Write poetry.
Love deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Hold hands.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.

Take care of yourself. Don't wait for someone to take care of you.
You light up your life. You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except YOU.
Don't be afraid.
Don't lose your capacity to love.
Pursue your Passions.
Live your dreams.
Don't grow old.
Just grow YOU ...!

  Why Is It...
Posted by: Bushbaby - 21-09-2004, 10:30 AM - Forum: Flora - Replies (3)

Sorry, I know this is slightly off topic for this forum but just have to ask.

Why is it that even though you can get French, Spanish and Italian sun ripened tomatoes all over the Continent, the shops here in Ireland persist in selling those insipid Dutch greenhouse grown tomatoes?

I went out this weekend to try and get some good tomatoes to make my winter stash of ragu, sugos, and passatas with and could not find a single sun-ripened tomato anywhere - and that included the local market (they were selling Irish greenhouse tomatoes)!

Surely the summer hasn't been that bad?

  Ek bedank!
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 07:31 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - No Replies

BEDANKING
Heil sommer die leser ook.

Hiermee dien ek amptelik my bedanking as volwassene in.

opreg is.

Ek wil weer eenvoudig lewe.

sommer net modderkoekies bak.

So . . hier is my tjekboek en my motorsleutels, my krediet kaartrekeninge

Ek bedank offisiëel as volwassene.

moet jy my eers inhol, want........

....." Touch! Jy kan my nie vaaaang nie!! "

  Before I was a mum
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 07:20 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - Replies (13)

Before I was a Mom
I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom,
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words of lullabies.

Before I was a Mom
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations

Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on
Pooped on
Spit on
Chewed on
Peed on
Or pinched by tiny fingers

Before I was a Mom I had complete control of:
My thoughts
My body
And my mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
Could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
Every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay
I had never known the warmth
The joy
The love
The heartache
The wonder
Or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom. Smile

At the end of the day
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 07:17 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - No Replies

At the end of the day, it is not how much money you make, the kind of
car you drive, the label you wear, the size of your house or how many
pats on the back you received at the office.

At the end of the day, it is about going home to find someone waiting
eagerly for you - with a smile to steal your heart, Big Grin and a hug to make
your day.

At the end of the day, it is not about physical beauty because beauty
will fade._ It is not about the tattoo you have on your body because
it will go out of fashion._ It is not about the boundless energy because
energy levels will dip with age.

At the end of the day, it is about how you will pull yourself
together to meet every obstacle along the way._ It is about every sacrifice
you_ make in order to be together._ It is about how you forgive someone
for the mistakes he or she makes._ It is about working out
misunderstandings, and saying SORRY and mean it and to learn from
your__mistakes, because life is not a bed of roses all the time.

At the end of the day, it is about expressing truth & love .

  Angel in my heart
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 07:14 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - Replies (2)

Angel in my heart
When I have no one to turn to
And I am feeling kind of low,
When there is no one to talk to
And nowhere I want to go,

I search deep within myself
It is the love inside my heart
That lets me know my Angels are there
Even though we are miles apart.

A smile then appears upon my face Smile
And the Confusedunny: begins to shine.
I hear a voice, so soft and sweet
Saying, 'Everything will be just fine'

It may seem that I am alone
But I am never by myself at all.
Whenever I need my Angels near
All I have to do is call. :wings:

An Angel's love is always true
On that you can depend.
They will always stand behind you
And will always be your friend.

Through darkest hours and brightest days
Our Angels see us through.
You are one of my Angels.
Perhaps I am one for you. :cloud9:

  Always remember
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 07:11 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - No Replies

Always remember to forget
the things that made you sad.

But never forget to REMEMBER
the things that made you glad...

Always remember to forget
the friends that proved untrue.
But don't forget to REMEMBER
those that have stuck by you...

Always remember to forget
the troubles that have passed away.
But never forget to REMEMBER
the blessings that come each day...

  Noah's Ark
Posted by: oe-la-la - 20-09-2004, 06:54 PM - Forum: Poetry and Inspirations - No Replies

Noah's Ark Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark.
ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Most people walk in and out of your life......but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
